Notes - Funeral services for Eugenie L. ``Jeanne'' DeCapp Strobbe, 84, Dubuque, formerly of Moline and Glen Haven, Wis., are 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Behr's Funeral Home, Dubuque, and 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Dubuque, Dubuque County Right to Life, or the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Strobbe died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at her home.
She was born July 21, 1916, in Silvis, the daughter of Julius and Augusta (VanWatermeulen) DeCapp. She married Ralph Nicholson in 1935 in East Moline. He died in 1985. She later married Max Cleveland in 1958 in Moline. He died Oct. 16, 1963. She then married Arthur Strobbe Nov. 29, 1973, in Moline. He died Feb. 11, 1992.
During World War II, Jeanne went to work as a machine operator. She also took in ironing and cleaned private homes to raise her three children. When she was 50 years old, she returned to school and earned her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from Moline Lutheran Nursing School. After her graduation she worked at Lutheran Hospital in Moline for 10 years until her retirement.
She was an accomplished needleworker. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and will be remembered by the family for her dishcloths and doilies. She was also an avid fan of whatever her grandchildren were doing.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Barbara Nicholson, Dubuque, Tom and Julie Nicholson, Virginia Beach, Va., and Gerry and Kathy Nicholson, Davenport; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Cook, Hardin, Ky., and Clara Kilgore, New Concord, Ky.; a brother amd sister-in-law, Dave and Alma DeCapp, Silvis; a sister-in-law, Ann DeCapp, Silvis; and many nieces and nephews. Jeanne is preceded in death by sisters, Mary DeBarre and Jane DeCapp, and a brother, Albert DeCapp.
