    • MAURICE "JOE" DECAPP

Maurice "Joe" DeCapp, 86, of Rock Island, formerly of East Moline, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.

A memorial visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Private graveside services will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family or to Jordan Catholic School.

Joe was born Aug. 29, 1924, in East Moline, the son of Camiel and Margaret Hendricks DeCapp. He married Caroline Bileddo Aug. 4, 1945, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rock Island.

He served in the U.S. Army as 1st Sergeant during World War II in Patton's 3rd Army throughout its victory march across France, including the Battle of the Bulge to war's end. He retired as a machine operator from John Deere Plow Planter in 1989, after 40 years of service. He was a UAW Retiree, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline, prior to moving to Florida.

He enjoyed farming, and was always there when someone needed a helping hand. He was power-chair bound for the last 20 years of his life with Muscular Dystrophy. He continued to help others when they needed something fixed, in his specially lowered workshop, which gave him much happiness and a challenge to create something out of the impossible.

Survivors include his wife of 65 wonderful years; daughter, Diane Hahn, Rock Island; son, Gerald (Marlene) DeCapp, Kenosha, Wis.; grandchildren, Jennifer, Rock Island, and Joel (Keri), Moline; great-granddaughter, Allie; sister, Rose Marie (John) Sacco, East Moline; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Kathleen; brother, Don; son-in-law, Michael Hahn.

He touched many lives and will sadly be missed by everyone who knew him.
