Notes - Frank DeKeyrel
Frank Camiel DeKeyrel, 60, of Milan died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Burial is in Beulah Cemetery, Orion. There is no visitation. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to the Quad City Candlelighters.
Frank was born June 13, 1941, near Spring Hill, Ill., on a farm in Whiteside County. He was the youngest son of Camiel and Julia DeCap DeKeyrel. He attended Alleman High School, Rock Island, graduating in 1953. He married Patricia McGee Nov. 15, 1975, in Rock Island. They had three daughters. They enjoyed many wonderful times together, raising their family on the farm.
Frank farmed in the Milan area his entire life. He was a member of the Pork Producers, the Rock Island County Farm Bureau and Communicating for Agriculture.
Frank served in the Army and Army Reserves during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1969.
He was a longtime member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan, having served on many of the parish committees. He had been a devout Catholic all of his life. He was a 4-H member for 11 years, Key Club member and 4-H leader for 15 years, having received many Club of the Year awards. He also served on the Youth Council and Extension Council of Rock Island County for eight years.
Frank served as a township trustee for eight years, township assessor for four years and township supervisor for eight years, all in Rural Township. He was a member of the Quad City Candlelighters, serving as president for two terms. He spent a lot of time and energy helping children with cancer.
He enjoyed spending time with his family on the farm, traveling, reading and collecting and restoring two-cylinder John Deere tractors. Frank also enjoyed attending Cardiac Rehab at Augustana College, where he had many good friends. He enjoyed life, living every day to the fullest.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; daughters, Melanie and Holly, both at home; Melanie's fiance, Steve Muhleman, East Moline; sisters, Mary DeKeyrel and Marge Wickenburg, both of Milan; a brother, Joe DeKeyrel, Apple Valley, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Heather; and brothers, Fred and Charlie DeKeyrel.
